Hints, Allegations, and Goals Left Unscored. Lakehill Squeak One Out Versus Bottom of the Table Gorge

It's always going to be a tough situation.  United, coming off the front-nine that has been the season so far, sit undefeated at the top of the table.  Gorge, their opponent, rooted to the cellar on just 3 points.  How do you get a team motivated while convincing them to treat their opponent with respect?

Gorge's mission was easy: Nothing to lose, play for the win, these guys are cocky, there are points there for the taking.  And take points, they almost did.  Well, at least 1 point, almost.

The game started well enough for United who looked rested despite a weekend of shenanigans in Seattle on the previous week.  But after some half chances in the opening 15 minutes, Gorge slowly started coming into the game as United took their foot off the gas pedal.

Gorge got on the front foot as United slowly started conceding territory and while there wasn't any serious threats to Mike "Boonama" Peters' net, United weren't exactly dominating the affair.  There wasn't anything of real note in the first half as the teams took to the dressing room.

The second period started a little better as the United players went looking for the ball and closed their checks a little quicker.  Dillon "The Call-Up" Walker was able to find space out wide and began to trouble the Zebras' back line.

Tim "Beast Master" Yager decided to play a little card roulette with the ref as he executed a perfect Bangkok retribution move in the middle of the park, earning his third yellow of the season.  Sam "Beast" Yager also had a battling display after he suffered the initial Bangkok (anyone else seeing the irony here as the biggest hammer toucher on the team had his hammer touched - I can't make this stuff up).

Eventually, Walker's industry paid off after a delayed advantage call saw him earn a penalty in the box.  Jeff "If I Miss This You will Hear Me Roar" Lenton calmly stepped up and smashed the ball into the net.

In the end, that is all that was needed as the game devolved into Benny "Shinner" Stanchfield proceeded to 74 the ball out of play.

So United remain unbeaten this season with a series of tough matches coming up including home matches against the Blazers on Friday and the Lakehill derby game next week.  The derby promises to be a great game as the Reds have slowly worked their way into second after yet another fine win against Nanaimo over the weekend.

Man of the Match: Jeff Lenton
Holle-Nash Award: Benny Stanch
Moan of the Match:  The whole game
